Hi, my name is Nikki and I’m a cancer. I like to have romantic dinners and take long walks on the beach…
Growing up, rock and roll was religion in my house. Everything from Chuck Berry to ABBA to Bob Seger to the B-52’s. There was always something on the record player in that big, clunky 70’s stereo system. Man, I still love the sound of those. I wanted to do something with music but singing and playing instruments were not my forte. I couldn’t figure out what else to do.
I ended up in radio kind of for a lack of anything better to do. My parents were on my case: “What are you going to do with your life?” I had friends in radio that said I had a good voice and I thought “What the heck, why not? Party and hang out with rock stars!” So I signed up for broadcasting school. Six weeks in, I went to a Motley Crue concert. You know the tour, the one with that other singer? (Which incidentally I like.) I met the program director/owner of the station associated with the concert and two weeks later they gave me my first radio gig.
I fell in love! Radio just fit! Of course it should, this is someone that remembers all the lyrics to WKRP In Cincinnati.
This is one of the longest relationships I have ever had. This September will mark 21 years. The industry had changed and I did have to take a break but now I found a home that puts the fun back in! I’m glad to be back on the air!
